"Conway"

I had no idea there was an old downtown here. I thought Conway was just the convenience store and market!

What is the "Correct" Speed Limit?

There's a trend towards lower speed limits in cities all over the world, but why is this happening? What is the research behind it? And what is the "correct" speed limit for cities, anyway?
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Interesting. Slower speeds mean that traffic lights can be safely removed from more intersections, which would be a great way to save city money. 🤔

Going old school: Ottawa teen flips the script on smartphones - Gavin MacNeil recently jumped on retro phone trend, mastering multi-tap texting

For some, the very idea of ditching their smartphone might seem impossible, but for MacNeil, a Grade 11 student at École secondaire publique De La Salle, it had to be done.

"I could feel a huge addiction to my smartphone and social media," he told CBC. "I went to the extreme of getting rid of my [smartphone] completely, and that's what brought me to a flip phone."

I wonder if I have any Scottish followers here.

Kind of feels like a lot of cities in the US act like it's illegal to build public restrooms.

Do they really think nobody will need to go if they don't build restrooms? :/

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

If they build public restrooms, someone has to be in charge of maintaining them, or else they get so filthy I'd rather go in a bush.

Stock investments are just white collar gambling. :3c

After having a TFT dash on the Ninja 1000SX I had for a couple years (long since sold), I don't really care either way about having that feature. 🤷‍♂️ #motorcycle

I still want to ride a two-stroke #motorcycle. :3c

How Seattle Rejected the Monorail

In 1997, Seattle voters approved a monorail transit system to be built across the city. Beginning as a cab driver's dream and growing into a major civic project, this was on track to become one of the largest systems of its kind in the world. But shortly before breaking ground in 2005, the project collapsed in on itself. This documentary tells the story of how Seattle ended up in this unusual position, and why the city's dream never got off the ground.

The police don't give a shit about property crimes.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

correction: cops don't give a shit about *your* property. Property of rich people is a different story.

What if part of the reason for forcing electronics and computers into everything is to intentionally make it not possible for users to work on their own stuff? 0_0

If your for-profit business has ever received a bailout or government subsidy because it can't stay afloat any other way, your business model and/or business practices are broken. >:(
